Pakistan Internet Users Experience Slow Connectivity Due to Fault in Submarine Cable

People use the Internet in various cities in Pakistan. Even though it happened two weeks ago, after a fault discovered in the submarine cable AAA-1 near Qatar, the effect has still been experienced: slow connectivity mostly during peak hours. The result is that nowadays most people only get to occasionally use social media or browse the web, making them really worried about the situation with the Internet.

A PTCL spokesperson confirmed that alternative routes are being used to redirect internet traffic to minimize outage. Extra bandwidth has been lined up for carrying on operations as smoothly as possible. According to them, the overall services of the internet will continue to function, but there may be sporadic delays because of high traffic.

The problems triggered by the fault in the submarine cable that was discovered on January 2, 2025, are being worked upon by an international consortium. Unfortunately, even though active repairing efforts are ongoing, the authorities have not specified a definite timeline as to the resolution of the issue.

Although browsing speeds would not be stable, users have been advised to brace themselves for further off-and-on access to social media until full repairs have been carried out. The situation is being monitored closely, and statements will be released accordingly as progress is made.
