There are several ways to Apply Study in Germany for a place at a German university. Which one is best for you has to do with the field of study and your background.
From university to university and sometimes from subject to subject, the requirements and deadlines are different. Here you will find answers to the most important questions.
1. WHERE DO I HAVE TO APPLY?
It depends on two factors: where you have graduated and which subject you want to study.
In total, there are three different bodies that handle applications: the University Admissions Foundation , the Uni-assist Work and Service Center, and the university itself.
Where you must apply depends on the admission restrictions of your subject.
Therefore, you should first find out if your subject has an admission restriction.
2. WHAT IS AN ADMISSION RESTRICTION in Germany ?
Even if you meet the general requirements for studying in Germany, you often can not simply sign up for your desired subject. This is because in Germany there are more prospective students than study places for many study programs.
The admission restriction determines who is allowed to study the subject. It can be regulated locally, which means that it only applies to individual universities. But it can also be determined nationwide or centrally.
3. WHICH DEGREE PROGRAMS ARE LOCAL, WHICH ARE LIMITED NATIONWIDE?

4. WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR ME IF I COME FROM AN EU COUNTRY, FROM LIECHTENSTEIN, ICELAND OR NORWAY?
If you want to apply study in Germany as international Student and your subject has a central NC, you must apply to the Foundation for Admissions. If not, you can apply at uni-assist or directly at the university – depending on whether your desired university is a member of uni-assist. You can find a list on the website of uni-assist .
5. WHAT APPLIES IF I COME FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY?
If you have graduated from a German school, then the same applies to you as in question If not, you always apply to uni-assist or, if the university is not a member, directly at the university – even if your subject has an NC.
