A rescue official reports 12 people hurt in a gas cylinder explosion close Peshawar hospital

A rescue worker stated that twelve individuals suffered on Saturday when a gas cylinder detonated in a roadside cafe close to Peshawar’s Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH).

A Rescue 1122 spokesperson said upon becoming aware of the blast that rescue personnel early reached the site of incident and started the rescue effort.

The police officers personally drove the injured to the hospital, while a representative from Rescue 1122 remarked that firefighters fast put out the blaze.

Referring to hospital sources, the spokesperson said that the victims were getting therapy at the KTH.

Nationwide, fires started by leaking and explosion of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders abound.

After an LPG tanker ignition in Multan, Punjab’s last month claimed at least 19 lives and injured more than a dozen, the Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat instructed an inquiry of the sale of poor-quality LPG.

One person died and seven others were hurt in distinct gas blasts in Quetta and Pishin districts of Balochistan earlier this week.

A gas cylinder blast inside a store in the Dera Ismail Khan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa last month injured three adults, including two young girls.

Before that event, nine people in Rawalpindi suffered burn wounds in comparable gas blasts and a man died in Sindh’s Ghotki district from fire.

Last May, a huge explosion at an LPG cylinder filling station in Hyderabad killed at least 27 people—19 children—and injured well more than a dozen. Similar events in Bhitshah and Larkana within two weeks followed the first, causing government to act on LPG gas-fuel shop in Sindh.
